Questions relating to Blenders texturing tools and texturing techniques.

Texturing is the process of applying a 2D image or pattern onto a 3D model to add extra detail. Textures can affect and influence almost any property of a material including:

  • base diffuse color
  • specularity
  • transparency
  • reflectivity
  • emission

Normal maps can used to affect the light and add fake "bumps" to the surface of the object.

For more information check out the Blender Manual pages on texturing in Blender Internal and Cycles, as well as some general info on Wikipedia.
