Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish اصرغان (ısırgan), morphologically ısır- (“to bite”) + -gan (“habitual suffix”), literally “that which bites a lot”. Compare Yakut ытырыык от (ıtırıık ot, “nettle”).
Usage notes
- Mainly used with the word ot (“grass, herb”) as ısırgan otu.
