Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *bʰel- (“to blow, grow, swell”) + -ուն (-un). Cognate with Ancient Greek φαλλός (phallós), Old Norse boli (“bull”). The form բեղն (bełn) was back-formed from compounds such as բեղնաւոր (bełnawor). See also բեղմն (bełmn).
