Borrowed from Iranian with suffix (-i) attached, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *cuxráh (“red”). Doublet of (sorx) which was inherited. Compare Central Kurdish سوور (sûr, “red”), Pashto سور (sur, “red”), Northern Luri (sur, “red”).
