From Prakrit 𑀮𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀺𑀅 (laḍḍia, “caressing”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), ultimately from Sanskrit लड् (laḍ, “to play”). By surface analysis, لاڈ (lāḍ, “affection”) +‎ ـلا (-lā).
