Possibly from Sanskrit प्रश्रेष्ठ (praśreṣṭha, literally “very excellent”); perhaps via Old Khmer praseṭṭha, prasœra, prasergga (“excellent; magnificent; superb”). Compare Modern Khmer ប្រសើរ (prɑsaə), Pali paseṭṭha.
