A taildragger is an aircraft whose undercarriage consists of (usually) two main wheels forward of the center of gravity, and a small wheel or skid to support the tail.

Why tail wheel rather than tricycle?
I'm working towards my tail wheel rating and enjoying it greatly. But, people ask me why some planes have a conventional landing gear (tail wheel).
Why indeed? I understand perhaps why they had them originally, but is it just historical reasons?…
