Questions tagged [book-recommendation]

Questions relating to requests for basic reference materials on a broad area of study.

Imprecise questions on book recommendations tend to generate opinion-based answers. In order to not be considered opinion-based, and therefore closed, book recommendation questions must provide the following information:

  • Broad area of study (default)
  • Scope of the book (i.e. what topics should it cover). This should be a detailed list of topics that the OP is interested to study.
  • Level of the book (i.e. should it be a suitable/intended for beginners or should it have detailed information suited for an advanced reader)

Other useful information includes why some books are specifically not deemed suitable.

Introductory biology text for an outsider

I'm a maths major and I have an interest in learning biology. I know very, very little; I know how babies are made and that's about it. Could anyone recommend a stimulating text to read for its own sake and also to use to learn biology?
