A piezo buzzer contains a piezoelectric element combined with an in-built oscillator / driver to produce an audible sound. While the output frequency is fixed using them is as simple as applying a DC voltage within the specified range.

What's the third wire on a piezo buzzer?
Most piezos I've seen have just two connections, but this type has three.
What's the third wire for?

Lowering pitch sound of a piezoelectric buzzer
I have tried to drastically lower the pitch of a piezoelectric buzzer, but to no avail. All the piezo buzzers I have emit a very high pitched whistle-like tone. I've tried changing all the parameters of my pulse generator, i.e., frequency, duty…

Good explanations of audio piezo element behavior
Is there any description anywhere of how voltage, current, mass, momentum, and air interact in a typical audio piezo, and what sort of signal should be expected on the third pin of a three-terminal device (phase relationship with regard to drive,…

Piezo Buzzer Coil or Resistor oscillator
I found two ways of working with piezo like a buzzer.
In the first case, we use only a resistor. When we turn ON the circuit, I have my transistor off, With Vc=VDC. When the piezo sends a feedback voltage, we have saturation in the transistor; my Vc…

Piezo speaker with distorted sound
I'm creating a simple circuit, where a microcontroller drives a piezo speaker. I couldn't find a datasheet for the piezo (the part number is HKDZ-G) but I know it has a internal oscillator and it's rated at 3V.
The speaker beeps are loud and clear…

Safe to remove piezo-buzzer from this PCB?
(Click on images for larger view.)
The AC indoor unit I own has an 85dB, 2kHz piezo-buzzer on the PCB. I find it unnecessarily loud, so after coming across this question I filled its hole with blu-tack. This muffled the sound it produces, but not…

Understanding piezo buzzers and their specification
I am using the following piezo buzzer:
As far as I understand, a piezo buzzer is a capacitive load. So the current loading this capacitance should be limited in order not to burn the driver (in my case an MCU).
What is then capacitance and what is…

Can I supply a 12V buzzer with 18V?
I'm trying to make a little buzzer for my bike to sound occasionally to warn off bears. I have a 12V buzzer from Radio Shack (Cat. No. 273-065) and was wondering if I could run it off of 18V directly (2x9V Transistor Batteries series) for 1-2 second…

How to tell if a buzzer is passive or active?
I see a lot of buzzers (like this one) that are sold online and don't advertise whether they are active (a DC power signal produces noise) or passive (to make noise they require both the DC power signal and an additional signal).
How can I tell if a…

How to tell a piezo buzzer is broken?
Some time ago I've purchased Bestar Acoustic's F-B-P3009EPB-O1LF piezobuzzer, but only now found time to actually test it.
To my understanding, piezobuzzer should just work after voltage (in my case - 12V) is correctly applied, that is, produce tone…

What do HSDZ and HYDZ mean for piezo buzzers?
I have some buzzers, which have a label on them, which states "HSDZ REMOVE SEAL AFTER WASHING". I know that washing is the process of removing residues of flux or something else with solvent. However, I can't find anything about HSDZ. What does it…
