Raid controller is a device to manage physical disks

Raid controller is a special device used to manage multiple physical disks and present them as logical units. It implements hardware raid. It can be referred to also as disk array controller.

Disk array controllers provide:

  1. Backend interface to communicate with the controlled disks such as SATA, SCSI, etc..
  2. Frontend interface to communicate with the computer host such as HBA.
