This is what I wrote in my .tex file:

<\emph{Technician, View, Business_Plan, NULL}>$\rightarrow$ \emph{Deny}
<\emph{HR, View, Business_Plan, NULL}>$\rightarrow$ \emph{Deny}
<\emph{Manager, View, Business_Plan, NULL}>$\rightarrow$ \emph{Permit}

However, I got following compiling mistake:

! Missing $ inserted.
<inserted text> 
                $

? 

Process has been terminated ...

I am almost mad by this weird error!!! Could anybody help me??

  • the ">" is the problematic character. it should either be gone or also placed in the $$ equation (you can't simply write > in text) – PascalVKooten Oct 18 '13 at 10:15

You can't simply use "<" and ">" in text, one option would be to use $<$ and $>$.

Also, underscores can't appear in text, escape these: \_.
