I am a research mathematician, with plenty of experience as a C programmer. I am putting the finishing touches to a new translation of Newton's Principia. I am more familiar with plain TeX than with LaTeX; but I have to use LaTex quite frequently. I can usually solve my problems with computer packages; but I have hit a LaTex problem that has completely defeated me.
