I recently made a .bib file with 5 entries and it worked perfectly. However, when I added 5 more entries today, it gave the following error:

Paragraph ended before \OT1\. was complete

When I remove the latest entries I still get the error, but when I replace the .aux, .bib and .tex files with back-upped versions containing 5 entries it works again.

Is there anyone who has any idea as how to solve this error?

The .tex file

\documentclass{scrartcl}
\usepackage[english]{babel}
\usepackage[super]{natbib}
\title{[Insert Title Here]}
\begin{document}
\maketitle
\newpage
\bibliographystyle{unsrt}
\bibliography{refs}
\end{document}

  • Welcome to TeX-sx. We will need to see something of your .bib file to be able to help here: can you edit in an example? – Joseph Wright Sep 15 '14 at 18:53
  • Im new to this Im sorry – Klevieter Sep 15 '14 at 18:58

    Thanks for posting the code of one of the problem entries. It looks like the culprit is the word M\"{u}ller: If you write it as M{\"u}ller, you shouldn't be experiencing the problem you're encountering at the moment. For an in-depth discussion of this subject, see the posting How to write “ä” and other umlauts and accented letters in bibliography. – Mico Sep 15 '14 at 19:01
  • I'm sorry it didn't work. Moreover, I used the same method in the first five entries – Klevieter Sep 15 '14 at 19:02
  • @Klevieter We will need to see an entry that causes the issue and a full extract from you .log showing the issue. In particular, make sure the demo you post actually gives the issue. – Joseph Wright Sep 15 '14 at 19:08
  • well i have 9 other entries, would you like me to post them all? and I dont know where the problem arises thats part of my problem. It says in line 0 of the .bbl file – Klevieter Sep 15 '14 at 19:17
  • @Klevieter - "it didn't work" is not informative. What doesn't work? Do you get an error message, a warning message, something that looks wrong, or something else? Please be as specific as possible. I've posted an answer showing that changing M\"{u}ller to M{\"u}ller does "work". – Mico Sep 15 '14 at 19:18
  • I still get the same error I.E. it didn't change the situation, i've checked for typo's a million times now; I have entered the entire BibTeX file – Klevieter Sep 15 '14 at 19:20
  • I removed the \bibliography part and compiled and put it back and compiled again and for some reason it compiles without errors now :S thanks for the help guys – Klevieter Sep 15 '14 at 19:31
  • Glad the problem has been solved. I'm going to propose to close this question as information about both the initial problem and the eventual solution weren't made available. – Mico Sep 15 '14 at 19:33

    agreed to that! – Klevieter Sep 15 '14 at 19:34

    This question appears to be off-topic because it is about an error for which no information was made available about either the cause of the errors or the eventual resolution of the problem. – Mico Sep 15 '14 at 19:34
  • As agreed, I've pulled the trigger to close. – Joseph Wright Sep 15 '14 at 19:39
