Redefining the quote environment

Can somebody tell me what is wrong with this:

\renewenvironment{\quote}{%

My goal is to reduce the spacing above a quote environment.

• Environments are written without backslash, in \renewenvironment

• Define also \endorigquote

\let\endorigquote\endquote

  \origquote
