~is a tie ie non-breaking space. Sayword~\cite{...}ensure that we cannot have a line break betweenwordand\cite{}. It is also very hand for regular references, I usually use~in front of all my references. – daleif Feb 28 '12 at 16:45~before\refcommand? – Werner Feb 28 '12 at 16:46
