Springer Nature template - no citations & font issue

Question

The Springer Nature template (https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/springer-nature-latex-template/gsvvftmrppwq) compiles on Overleaf, but when attempting to compile locally using pdflatex ➞ bibtex ➞ pdflatex × 2 in VSCode with MikTex, I get the warnings below. (The font & float & under/overfull issues are kinda okay, but the undefined citations not so much.) Thanks in advance!

Overleaf Support are quite good. What do they say? All those (font) messages indicate your local settings aren't mirroring Overleaf's settings. Without a minimal code example (MWE) to work on, there is only guesswork. — Cicada, Feb 13 '23 at 12:52
Bibtex should generate an sn-article.blg log file, that should indicate what went wrong, what does that say? — Dai Bowen, Feb 13 '23 at 15:56
@Cicada For a MWE I can only provide the link to the actual template, as I have not done anything other than download & attempt to compile it... Also, since it does work on Overleaf, I'm not sure whether Overleaf support would be the place to ask this question? — Daniel von Eschwege, Feb 13 '23 at 21:13

@DanielvonEschwege the log file just sounds like pdflatex saying references were not found, probably due to bibtex not running or failing, absence of a .blg file suggests not running. What happens if you run bibtex sn-article from a terminal? — Dai Bowen, Feb 13 '23 at 21:43

@DanielvonEschwege oh dear, that looks like a fault with MiKTeX. You could try updating and see if that resolves, how did you install MiKTeX? You appear to have a more recent version than the latest release on https://miktex.org/download — Dai Bowen, Feb 13 '23 at 22:39
@DanielvonEschwege is there any news here? munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer sounds like a straight-up error in the MiKTeX provided binaries, hopefully resolvable by updates. — Dai Bowen, Mar 15 '23 at 22:25

With the references, I think this helps. Try checking this one for the font size issue.
