Questions tagged [tipa]

tipa is a font and LaTeX package for typesetting IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) with TeX.

The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is a specialized alphabet used to represent the sounds of human languages. It is primarily used within linguistics, though it also enjoys some popularity as a pronunciation guide in choral music. The tipa package allows users to input ASCII characters in the form of X-SAMPA notation, which are then displayed in IPA.

The tipa package embeds T3-encoded characters into PDF documents. Users with a XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX distribution may wish to use the alternative package tipauni, which produces IPA characters in Unicode.
