Questions tagged [subdivision-surface]

Use this tag for questions involving Blender's Subdivision Surface modifier

The Subdivision Surface Modifier is used to split the faces of a mesh into smaller faces giving a smooth appearance. Using this modifier, enables you to model complex smooth surfaces with simple, low-vertex meshes. This allows modeling of high resolution meshes without the need to save and maintain huge amounts of data and it gives a smooth organic look to the object.

This process creates virtual geometry that is generated non-destructively without modifying the original mesh, but it can be converted to real geometry that you could edit with the Apply button.

Array + Subsurf causes undesired pattern

In order to model a part of a wire puzzle, I used a cylinder unit, added an array modifier to make it as long as I want, and finally added a curve modifier to give it its shape. To make it look nice, I wanted to add a subsurf modifier, but this…

Rounded corners - but not as you know them - messing up the mesh for sub-division surface (Piano key)

I'm trying to model a black organ or piano key. It's basically a long cuboid with some non-square angles (which shouldn't make much difference). It has rounded corners on the front and will have slight rounding on the edges. The front corner rounds…

What's the difference between the Subdivision Surface modifier and the edit mode->RMB->Subdivide option?

Sorry for the newbie question. I'm following the famous donut tutorial for blender 2.8. When I press the apply button for the subdivision surface modifier to the torus it makes more vertices + faces for the donut. However, when I press the subdivide…

Unable to find "Subdivide Smooth" option in blender 2.8

This question is exactly the question I'm asking: Model appears to have visible polygons rather than being smooth? I've read it but I can't find the subdivide smooth option even after doing the operator search. I'm using 2.8 and their using an older…

Subdivision not working as expected
