Questions tagged [texture-baking]

Questions about blender's Bake feature under the Render panel, such baked images as normal maps, AO maps, and displacement maps, and texture maps.

  • Precomputed maps These maps, such as normal maps, ambient occlusion (AO) maps, and displacement maps, represent different values of a model or scene. The maps are baked onto images that can be saved and loaded at render time so that the computation of the value (normal, AO, displacement, etc.) doesn't have to be performed again every render. In the image file, each pixel represents the value for the matching UV coordinate.

Baking textures: Circular Reference in texture stack error

I'm getting this error when I try to bake textures on my model. It says "Circular reference in texture stack". I found some info on the net. It says I should disable a texture in the texture stack so Blender won't write the texture on itself. But I…

Bake texture from view

I have a wooden crate with textures and all. I want to turn this (Figure 1, see below) into this (Figure 2). The only way I can think to explain it would be projection baking, where I project my 3D view unto a new image to get my desired image. I'm…

Image Mapping vs Texturing vs Baking

What is the difference between Imaging Mapping, texturing and baking? In sculpting workflow, I have learned that a high-poly mesh needs to re-topologize for avoiding hassle. Then the baking process starts. My question is: Do we UV-unwrap high-poly…
